Quote of the Day: Embrace the Mess
"Maybe the cat has fallen into the stew, or the lettuce has frozen, or the cake has collapsed. Eh bien, tant pis. Usually one's cooking is better than one thinks it is. And if the food is truly vile, then the cook must simply grit her teeth and bear it with a smile, and learn from her mistakes." ~ Chef Julia Child

Mistakes in the kitchen are simply inevitable...not every meal will be perfect and that is perfectly okay! Every cook, whether a home chef or a world class professional chef, has made an error at one point or another in the kitchen. From putting too much spice in a dish or forgetting to season correctly, to overcooking or even accidentally burning your main ingredient...the list of potential errors is undeniably endless. But if there's one lesson cooking can teach you, it's how to be resilient in the face of setbacks. I recently attempted to make this new bread pudding, inspired by one of my favorite cooking shows, but it unfortunately turned out to be a complete and utter mess. Although palatable, it was not quite the grand result I had initially envisioned. It's tempting to get downright discouraged from trying new recipes after such a disappointing experience, but sometimes you just need to live and learn...The best you can do in such situations is to turn the failure into ultimate triumph by using the lessons learned to improve your future cooking experiences. After all, mistakes can be a great source of knowledge and occasionally, the best recipes can be invented from a seemingly irreversible error. So, embrace the mess anyway and use it as a stepping stone to an even greater culinary adventure!
