Honorary Dish of the Day: Healthy Finger Millet Porridge (Uji)

Honorary Dish of the Day: Our second Kenyan staple food and honorary dish of the day today is simply delicious and heart-warming Healthy Finger Millet Porridge, commonly known as Uji in our home country. It is a highly popular breakfast dish but is also usually served in place of either 10AM or 4 o'clock tea from time to time 😊. Finger millet is a highly nutritious ancient grain that is native to Africa and is also now grown in parts of Asia. It is very rich in dietary fiber and has a host of vitamins, minerals such as iron and calcium, as well as essential amino acids to boot! You can read more about the numerous wonderful health benefits of this particular type of millet here. It is truly a bonafide superfood that I believe is yet to hit the western world...good thing East Africa is way ahead of the world on this one 😉. Making porridge is a very uncomplicated process that yields amazingly delicious and healthy results. I will be posting the full recipe on our Recipe Index so keep a watch out for that coming soon. Enjoy!
