Honorary Dish of the Day: Dragon Fruit & Nut Yoghurt Bowl
Honorary Dish of the Day: Our honorary dish of the day today is this beautiful, vibrant, and downright delicious Dragon Fruit & Nut Yoghurt Bowl! This scrumptious medley is not only healthy and refreshing, but also comes fully packed with tons of nutrients that provide you with an unmatched burst of energy to power through your day with ease. This was my very first time trying the amazing dragon fruit...since I first laid my eyes on one, I have always been curious about how it tastes and eager to give it a try since it seems so exotic with an unmistakable "out-of-this-world charm" to it. I also find its distinctly bright pink color just so irresistibly appealing, not to mention its mysteriously enticing and unique name to top it all off! However, I never quite got to that crucial threshold point where I could convincingly justify forking out the considerable sum of money required to purchase even just a single fruit 😄. Nonetheless, this all changed one day when I happened to notice that they were surprisingly on sale (half off!) - a very rare offer indeed that I simply could not afford (pun intended) to pass up! Understandably, they are truly unique and quite rare tropical fruits, which explains why they tend to be so expensive. After doing some research, I came to learn that the dragon fruit, also known as a pitaya/pitahaya or strawberry pear, is a fruit from a member of the cactus family and actually comes in different varieties. Only the pulp and seeds inside are edible (see photo below for reference) and I am happy to report that I absolutely fell in love with the fruit's deliciously succulent and subtle taste.
To prepare my breakfast/brunch yoghurt bowl, I simply created a base layer of store-bought cherry yoghurt at the bottom of my favorite bowl, followed by a melange of trail mix staples including almond, dried cranberries, cashew nuts, and pumpkin seeds. I then sprinkled some chia seeds on top for some extra crunch and flavor before finally topping the bowl with a generous layer of scooped dragon fruit pieces as pictured above. This fruit and nut mix was absolutely delicious and trust me, it was so filling that I did not feel hungry until late into the evening that day 😁. If you can get your hands on one, I highly recommend that you give dragon fruit a try sometime as a treat to yourself or your loved ones...I guarantee you that it will be well worth the investment. Enjoy! 😋😍
